(1) You should be careful with the use of AND as it joins two or more positive things.
- I like meat. Combine the 2 sentences into
- I like egg. I LIKE MEAT AND EGG.
(2) You should be careful with the use of OR as it joins two or more negative sentences.
- I don't like cat. Combine the 2 sentences into
- I don't like dog. I DON'T LIKE CAT OR DOG.
(3) OR is also used to connect choice in question.
- Do you want to run OR walk? (choose 1)
- My mother OR father will pick me up. (only one of them who will pick me up, not both)
Here are 3 rules of commas (see p.58-9):
- Put a comma after time-order transition expressions, except then (e.g. First, )
- Use a comma after the first part of a compound sentence (e.g. I'm sad, so I cry)
- Use a comma to separate items in a series of 3 or more (e.g. cat, dog, and bird)
